Student opportunities and activities

Public Speaking

Lions Junior Public Speaking encourages students to build confidence and develop public speaking skills by presenting speeches in front of varied audiences. The program fosters creativity, research, and communication, allowing students to express their unique personalities. It benefits students’ skills long-term and is enjoyed by both students and teachers, who often incorporate it into classroom activities.

Creative and performing arts

Students have the opportunity to participate in the PULSE Deniliquin Creative Arts Workshops, presented by the NSW Department of Education Arts Unit. This program offers high-quality arts experiences specifically for public school students in the Deniliquin area.

Over two days, Arts Unit staff, tutors, and choreographers lead workshops across a variety of performing arts disciplines, culminating in a performance showcase on the evening of the final day. The primary focus is on providing an enjoyable and enriching workshop experience for all students. The performance serves as a celebration of their efforts, rather than the main objective, and students of all abilities are encouraged to take part.

Trips and excursions

Excursions are designed to complement the school curriculum and enhance classroom learning. Every student has the opportunity to participate in one major excursion each year. The duration of major excursions for each year group is as follows:

• Kindergarten, Year 1, and Year 2: Full-day excursion
• Years 3 and 4: Two to three-day camp held every two years, with a full-day excursion in alternate years
• Years 5 and 6: Three to four-day Canberra camp held every two years, with an overnight excursion in alternate years

Debating

Nominated students are invited to participate in the Premier’s Debating Challenge Workshop in Albury, hosted by the NSW Department of Education Arts Unit. This full-day workshop offers expert coaching and practice with some of the state’s most experienced adjudicators and coaches. It covers all essential aspects of primary school debating, including rebuttal, argument development, definitions, and speakers' roles. Students engage in interactive games and activities, have the opportunity to deliver a short debate speech, and receive personalised feedback. Suitable for all skill levels—from beginners to advanced debaters—this workshop provides an excellent opportunity for students to deepen their understanding and confidence in debating.
