Why choose us?

Barooga Public School is a Kindergarten to Year 6 comprehensive, coeducational primary school located in Barooga NSW. We are proud to be part of a strong public education system and welcome students from all backgrounds and cultures.

Nestled along the scenic banks of the Murray River in Southern NSW, our school is privileged to stand on land of deep cultural significance to the Yorta Yorta, Bpangerang, and Jeithi peoples. We serve Barooga, its rural hinterland, and our neighbours in Cobram, drawing families who value our picturesque surroundings and friendly, close-knit atmosphere.

A signature feature of our school is our acclaimed 15-week Kindergarten Transition Program—the most comprehensive school readiness initiative in the region. This 15 week program offers play-based learning, early exposure to literacy and numeracy, and familiarisation with the school environment. Our Kindergarten teachers are actively involved in every session, and we provide free bus pick-up from local Early Learning Centres or from home, plus a special transition shirt for each child to foster belonging. Every new student is guaranteed a place, ensuring a smooth and supportive start to school life.

Our school values Respect | Responsibility | Safety are at the heart of our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework, which nurtures belonging and connection. Our strong school culture is reflected in outstanding results from surveys like ‘Tell Them From Me’ and ‘Partners in Learning,’ consistently exceeding state averages in student advocacy and family engagement.

We are committed to academic excellence, demonstrated by above-state-average NAPLAN growth and a strong focus on literacy and numeracy aligned with the NSW Curriculum Reform. Our diverse programs support all learners, from evidence-based literacy interventions to advanced opportunities such as Aurora College’s Opportunity Class in Mathematics, Science, and Technology. Students also participate in enriching activities like the NSW Premier’s Reading and Debating Challenges, ICAS Assessments, and the NSW Chess Competition.

Learning here extends beyond the classroom, with programs like the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden and a range of sports encouraging creativity, teamwork, and resilience. Our dedicated staff and active Parents & Citizens work closely with families to create a nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
